David is a seasoned trial attorney with extensive experience handling a wide array of subject matters, including construction disputes, commercial litigation, insurance defense and coverage issues, personal injury suits, and property damage suits. David has tried cases in numerous state and federal courts, trying matters ranging from small disagreements to large, multi-party disputes with millions of dollars in controversy. He has also conducted numerous mediations, early neutral evaluations, and court mandated settlement conferences to help his clients avoid the risk and expense of continued litigation.
David also has experience and expertise in transactional and corporate matters. He is an expert on the negotiation and drafting of contract documents, having assisted numerous clients by authoring or amending important contract forms. He has authored publications dedicated to the proper alternations needed to AIA contract forms for both contractors and owners. He has also assisted clients in enacting internal policies to avoid liability and has analyzed and resolved potential contract disputes before they ripened into litigation. He has helped clients form and sell their companies, and even assisted clients with the formation of complicated international charitable entities.
David started his career in 1996 at the firm of Swift, Currie, McGhee & Hiers where he gained more than 10 years of valuable and extensive experience litigating insurance coverage and property damage disputes. While there, he also gained experience with construction litigation, insurance defense and other commercial disputes. David was made Partner at Swift Currie in 2002. In 2006, David moved to Smith, Currie & Hancock, where he practiced for five years in the construction, government contracts, and commercial litigation practice groups. In May of 2011, David founded The Law Office of David C. King, LLC concentrating in the areas of construction, business law, and insurance disputes, and now joins us as a valuable asset of the Patel Burkhalter team.
David is a native of Lafayette, Georgia, and received his undergraduate education from Maryville College, where he graduated summa cum laude in 1993 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Management. While at Maryville, David was President of the Student Government Association and active in several other school organizations, including his position as a wide receiver on the Maryville College football team. After graduating from Maryville, David attended the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens where he graduated cum laude in 1996. While at Georgia, David was an articles editor for the Journal of Intellectual Property Law, and also participated in several moot court and mock trial competitions.
David lives with his wife Molly and their two twin boys in Cobb County. He is an avid baseball fan and cycling enthusiast.
